Birth support

As a doula, I accompany women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with the staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions in labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, and positioning and other techniques for comfort.

It is important after we meet that we continue to get to know each other. My doula services consist of 1-2 prenatal appointments in your home so that I can learn about you and what kind of birth you want to have in a relaxed manner, discuss your priorities and any fears or concerns, and to plan how we might work best together.  We talk when you think you are in labor and when you are ready for me to arrive, I will meet you at your home or hospital. After that we keep in touch by telephone and/or email.

At the time of birth I stay the whole time until the baby is born and usually remain with you for one to two hours after the birth, until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. I can also help with initial breastfeeding and then we check in after you get home as well. I am available for phone contact to answer questions about the birth or the baby.  I do a short postpartum visit to make sure breastfeeding is going well and answer any questions you may have.

Postpartum services

Many moms are so overwhelmed bringing a baby home. Sometimes they need a little extra help. These hourly services help you to be eased into motherhood.

I can assist with all the baby basics, breastfeeding, laundry, light meal preparation and answering any questions you may have. So you couldbemore comfortable and confident being new parents in this transition. These services are not the nanny care. You are relyingon professional who is knowledgeable in newborn care, whose main goal is to let you bond with your baby and teach how to deal with different situations as parents. You can choose how many hours a day you want and how many days a week you want.

Breastfeeding help

As a breastfeeding counselor, I am there to help you understand how to know if your baby is getting enough milk. If you are having questions or concerns, I can help you evaluate the baby’s latch and determine if there is an issue or not, and I know when to refer out to someone else if It is out of my knowledge base. Especially if there is pain with breastfeeding! I will be there to assess and figure out common breastfeeding issues early on and get you on your journey easily from the start. It is my goal to help you have a wonderful breastfeeding connection with your new baby. Good support early on is critical for most new parents to get off to a good start. I will do my best to help you succeed!

Benefits of hiring a private breastfeeding counselor:

  • In-person consults in your home or hospital. I come to you!

  • I am trained in many common problems with breastfeeding. I do not only go off my own experience.

  • I am taught evidence based information.

  • I know how some birth experience can undermine breastfeeding at times. And I know how to help you work through that.

  • I know who to refer to when things are not getting better quickly.

Childbirth classes

Knowledge is power and my goal is to educate. It is one of my passions – getting the most current evidence-based information and share it with future parents. One of the best ways for me to do this is a childbirth class. This can be taught as a group or as a private class. I cover all the basics plus some! In general classes, I cover late pregnancy, stages of labor, comfort measures, birth plans, common interventions, postpartum, baby care and breastfeeding. Private classes can be catered to the individual knowledge needed.

Benefits of taking a Childbirth class:

  • They build your knowledge base about what to expect.

  • They help partners understand also what is normal and how to help you through it.

  • They are evidence based so you get the most current information available.

  • You will understand the pros and cons of common interventions like epidurals, IV narcotics, and Pitocin.

  • You will learn how to write a birth plan and open communication with your care provider to make sure you create the support team that will help you have the best possible experience.

  • Your confidence will build as you learn to trust your baby and your body through the process.

Online services

For those who are out of the area and need some support, I offer online services. It can be by email, text, or phone calls! Even Facetime® or Skype®!  While it is not ideal to not have someone in person, sometimes life determines we still need some support from far away. This is designed just for that.

Parent consultations

For everything else there are parent consultations. Either by phone or in person but short term. Need help writing a birth plan? Need someone to attend doctor visits with you ? Or ask questions like how to know your doctor is the right choice for you or maybe you want to find another care provider? I can help you work through these by telling you which questions to ask to get good informed choice. Outside of medical advice, I can help you learn what will help make your birth and postpartum great!
